Every beach in the Caribbean has some special quality which makes it unique and different from the rest. White sands, warm, crystal clear waters, this is the typical Caribbean beach. The common characteristics of Caribbean beaches are the golden or white sands; the calm, transparent, warm waters; and the abundant vegetation which typically surrounds them. These beaches are perfect for underwater sports. Divers can enjoy views of beautiful coral reefs. Most beaches are well equipped with hammocks and parasols, and there are often hotel complexes nearby to cater to visitors' needs.
More specifically, we could mention the beaches of the Mayan Riviera, such as Playa del Carmen, the beaches of Tulum, of Cancun and the rest of the coastline of the state of Quintana Roo. These are beaches with a high level of tourism, many hotels and rental apartments, and a high number of diving clubs.
If you go to Belize, you will be able to enjoy 300 kilometres of Caribbean beaches. The coral reefs of this country are among the most significant in the world. The beaches of Belize are surrounded by little islets with tourist complexs, boat hire firms, hotels, and all the infrastructure you need for a comfortable holiday. These beaches are also ideal for bird watching. Thanks to the difficulty to access many parts of these beaches, they have become a sanctuary for many birds.
The beaches of Costa Rica are among the most unspoilt of the Caribbean. Beaches such as that of Talamanca, Guapiles, and the whole of the Limon province, give visitors the chance to be in direct contact with nature.
If you choose the Dominican Republic for your holiday you may want to visit the well known beach of Cabarete. Most of the tourists here are sports lovers who have come to enjoy kitesurfing or windsurfing, but there is always the option to just lie back in a hammock surrounded by coconut trees.
Basically when we speak about beaches in the Caribbean we are speaking about the principal attraction of the entire region of more than 200,000 square kilometres between the United States and South America, an area which is home to more than 20 countries, and more than a thousand islands. From Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Costa Rica, Belize, Honduras, Colombia and Venezuela on the peninsular, to the islands of Española, home to the Dominican Republic and Haiti, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Barbados, Martinique, St Martins, etc., etc you will have no problem finding a fantastic beach to lie on. |
